SLCDPU

Salt Lake Department of Public Utilities

Salt Lake City’s Department of Public Utilities (SLCDPU), which was established in 1876, is the oldest retail water provider in the western United States. Our long and successful history has instilled in us a strong value of protecting and managing our precious water resources. We understand the stewardship responsibility we have been given and take it very seriously.

We are committed to serving our customers and protecting our environment by delivering high-quality drinking water, managing flood control and stormwater, collecting and treating wastewater to standards that exceed EPA regulations, and maintaining and enhancing public street lighting.

Our Keep It Pure initiative is designed to effectively protect our source waters, especially the significant supply that comes from canyon watersheds in the central Wasatch Mountains. This includes efforts to raise awareness about where our drinking water originates, how it is delivered, and ways we can help to keep our watersheds clean and healthy.

Our Make It Pure program was created to educate people about wastewater and stormwater, and how these resources are captured, treated and returned to the environment in a responsible manner. Potential educational components at the new Wastewater Reclamation Facility will significantly increase SLCDPU’s ability to accomplish these goals.

Water is one of our most precious natural resources. Let’s use it wisely.
